What is an Authorisation Domain?
- Authorisation Domains are the highest level hierarchical entity inside the Data Sharing Ecosystem.
- It's a fundamental structure within the platform and ecosystem, delineating the primary operational and regulatory areas.
Characteristics
- Each ecosystem must have at least one Authorisation Domain. Additional domains can be added as necessary to accurately represent the ecosystem’s structure.
- An Authorisation Domain is defined as a free text string, offering flexibility in naming and categorization.
- For country-level ecosystems, the Authorisation Domains are typically set based on a given regulation and include a clear definition of its existing actors, responsibilities and governance.
- One example of an Authorisation Domain is "Open Banking, which is defined by a regulation issued by a regulatory entity, is governed by a regulatory authority, has a clear set of participants, and contains well-defined regulatory roles.
Recommendations
- It's advised to avoid including regional or country identifiers directly in the Authorisation Domain name.
- As the Authorisation Domain is the highest level entity in the Ecosystem, a set of the registered Reference Data should be linked to this Domain; being expected that a Domain will also have Roles and Authorities related to it.
- Instead, these geographical associations should be indicated by the Issuing Authority's country of registration or through specific Domain Role Authorisations, which can assign Domain Roles to particular geographic boundaries.
